I chose this one specifically because the sides were low...all the other convertible beds kept the high sides from the crib, which made the bed (to me) feel like a cage.Our daughter is a climber, so she loved when we switched her to this bed...she would climb up the sides into the bed, but learned that the proper way to exit, was out the open side. I think having a bed that she enjoyed made the transition from crib to toddler bed much easier. Our daughter also tended to roll and move around a lot in her crib at night, so she did fall out of the toddler bed a couple of times (at night), but she just climbed back in again and fell back asleep. After a little bit, she pretty much just stayed at the head of the bed. It was a great "big boy" moment for our son as he transitioned out of his crib. He loved that his bed "transformed" into a more grown up bed, but was still familiar. We loved that we didn't have to buy a whole new piece of furniture. The rails are fantastic for wild sleepers. My husband and I managed to still squeeze in with him for story time. We got nearly four years out of the crib and conversion kit. We also got the Changing Station.
