Traditionally styled with a maple rim, maple resonator, and flat top tone ring, the GT-500 utilizes the proven 5-string banjo pot assembly. Coupled with a comfortable 6-string maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, guitar players can achieve the banjo sound with their familiar playing techniques. The unique Gold Tone Sliding Magnetic Pickup (SMP) accentuates the bass response and provides piercing banjo-style treble typically associated with the “banjo” sound. | 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful  Gold Tone GT 500 6 String Banjo, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Gold Tone GT-500 Banjitar Banjo (Six String) (Electronics) The Gold Tone GT-500 6 string banjo is glorious to listen to, built to last, and gorgeous to look at - with high gloss finished maple neck and resonator, sealed tuners, bone nut, shiny chromed steel hardware, etc . - for a moderately priced banjo. But out of the box there were several problems which required a luthier's attention. Two frets were too high, causing the 6th string (low E) to buzz when played; two of the brackets in the resonator, which allow it to be screwed to the banjo were loose, one had fallen out and was rattling around inside; and the neck was a little too bowed, causing the strings to be higher from the fret board than necessary. My guess is that given the nature of all the screwed-in parts of banjos, and the vicissitudes of shipping - in this case, I guess from China, where it was manufactured, to Florida, to Kentucky to New York - you should figure to do a "fine tuning" setup on any new one you get. I've had this model for two years and tried a lot of things to get the pick-up sounding like a banjo instead of an electric guitar. I'm afraid I haven't succeeded - however that's not put me off it. I love this banjo. After many attempts I discovered that Elexir Bronze 11s and an AKG instrument mic get a great banjo sound. The instrument loud and resonant as well.Someone's going to make a proper banjo mic one day and make a fortune. |
